Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event, hosted byReading Between Pages, that will be open from one Thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:
- A theme will be posted each week (on Thursday’s)
- Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
- Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
- It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
RECREATION (Any spot that you would go for a break – Parks, resorts, even a library )
"They weren't happy about going to a strange hotel with a baby, so when one of their wealthier customers offered them the use of a small cottage in Rye, a place he claimed was much prettier than Hastings, they were delighted to accept."
p117, Secrets, by Lesley Pearse
This is a rather tenuous link to the theme I'm afraid. Secrets is the story of 12-year-old Adele who's younger sister has just been killed, her mother admitted to the mad house, her father doesn't want her and she's ended up in a boarding house for children where she is abused by the woman's husband - so there haven't been many trips to parks or libraries!
This snippet, however, relates to Adele's grandmother, and she's recollecting her honeymoon - surely there would have been a bit of "recreation" occurring then?! ;)
I think your snippet works just fine for the theme! Good job in finding one in such a depressing story....
ReplyDeleteOh, I think this snippet illustrates the theme perfectly...I like the idea of the cottage.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog.

One would hope there would be a little recreation on the honeymoon ^_~ Awesome snippet! The book sounds really good, as well. It might need to find it's way on my TBR pile!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
Sinn @ sinnful books
This snippet works great for this week.. A hotel and then a cottage to celebrate your honeymoon is definitely fitting for this theme.
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds interesting! And I think you tied it into the theme JUST fine. :D
ReplyDeleteGood one! Sounds like a good book.
