Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books This week's question comes from Britta who blogs at I Like These Books:
"What book-to-movie adaptations have you most liked? Which have you disliked?"
This question has just made me realise how few books I've read and how many movies I've watched! Terrible!! I'll just have to go about changing that. In the meantime though, the book-to-movie adaptation that I have most liked (and feel I can actually comment on), would be:
Snow Falling on Cedars, by David Guterson
It was an absolutely beautiful book and an absolutely beautiful film. I thought they did the adaptation very well, although I was glad that I'd read the book first, just to get more out of the film - but then I think that's the key to a good adaptation!
Meanwhile, the book-to-movie adaptations that I've disliked... where do I begin?!
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - terrible!
Q&A - the question and answers didn't add up, and they changed the relationship between the characters entirely!
And speaking of changing things entirely... My Sister's Keeper!!!!
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Blomkvist was meant to have sex appeal!
But, rather than ending this little hop on a negative note, my list of movies that I have loved and that I am yet to read the book version of is nice and healthy too:
PS: I Love You (and what's more I've heard the book is better!)
Chocolate (great film... and the book is sitting on my shelf)
The Devil Wears Prada (love it!)
And yes.... Jane Austen's collection. I have to get around to reading these!
LOL I agree about Blomkvist! I liked the film adaptation, but I didn't exactly understand their choice in casting him. I loved Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth though.
ReplyDeleteHey hey,
ReplyDeleteI loved Chocolate, and will eventually get around to reading the book.
Let me know what you think of Never let me go when you watch the movie. Would love to know your thoughts.
I'm half way through The Mermaid Chair now, and so far I would recommend it. Nothing major has happened yet but it is a lovely story that goes deep into the characters lives. I'm excited to read on!
Good answers! I have to say, I almost like Chocolat the movie a bit better than the book because of how they changed the story a bit.
ReplyDeleteHappy Hopping!
I loved The Boy With the Striped Pajamas - movie. If you say the book is much better, I will run to the book store right now!
ReplyDeleteOn my way! Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteI have not read or seen Snow Falling on Cedars, so I'll have to add that to my To Be Read and To Be Watched piles! Also, I think you'll love P.S. I love you! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

The Princess Bride will always be the absolute BEST book to movie adaptation ever, in my humble opinion.
ReplyDeleteI have read Snow Falling on Cedars but have not seen the movie. Chocolat is one of my favorite movies of all time. I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book. They were both good, but the movie was better!
ReplyDeleteA recent movie I liked was Something Borrowed, mostly because of the actors they cast. I'm still not into the main plot of carrying on an affair with your bff's fiance, but John Krasinski, Kate Hudson, and Ginnifer Goodwin made the characters more likeable.
ReplyDeleteLet’s kick off Memorial Day Weekend with some scandal and controversy.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved every minute of the Lord of the Rings films and felt they hit the mark when they brought Tolkien’s masterpiece to the big screen.
(ducking as rotten tomatoes are thrown at me as the torches are lit and the pitchforks raised)
Wait, wait. I can explain! Hop on over to my blog and hear me out – http://www.howardsherman.net

I can't belive I forgot about the Crime that was My Sister's Keeper...still makes me mad. And I didn't know Snow Falling was also a book. One to add to the "to read" list.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog Hop Day

Thanks for commenting on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Snow falling On Cedar's or seen the movie, sorry! But I liked your post it was really funny.
Have a great weekend
The book of P.S I Love You was 100 times better than the film.
ReplyDeleteI loved the film of 'Devil Wears Prada' but haven't read the book yet, I'm sure it will be good.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. :D
Oh, wow. I cried watching the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and actually it put me off reading the book. I would need a sedative to sleep or something as I've heard its sooo good - and for me that means, a lot more tears! Which I'm not sure I can handle. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!
agreed fot he jane austen series and devil wears prada such great movie adaptions! Thanks for visiting my blog :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the movie My Sister's Keeper, then again I haven't read the book.

I didn't think much of the book Chocolat. I think I was expecting more because so many people said they loved it but it was a bit meh for me.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of those films.
ReplyDeleteJust gave me a thought.... I steer clear of film adaptations of books I have read....but if I haven't read the book, I must try the film :)
carol
I loved Snow Falling on Cedars.
ReplyDeleteStopping by from the blog hop.
Stop by my blog if you like...I usually prefer books to the movie version.

Goodness, I haven't seen Snow Falling on Cedars or read the book! But I'm like you because it seems I've watched more movies than read their books, just like with Chocolat. :) It's such a lovely film though even if it does make me hungry! Have a delightful weekend!
