What are you currently reading?

Perhaps the question should be, what am I not currently reading. The pile of books on my bedside table is growing at an alarming rate and I have so many on the go - I just need to commit to one. However, I am looking forward to picking up the new Alexander McCall Smith one tonight.

What did you recently finish reading?

I've just finished The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul  and had a great discussion about it at bookclub last night, over cupcakes and cocktails. I've already written a review about it here.

What do you think you'll read next?

At the top of my pile is A Girl is a Half-formed Thing but a bookmark is currently sitting about a quarter of the way in to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harbold Fry so I may opt for that one.

What are you currently reading?

I currently have bookmarks in books all over the place but the one I picked up last night (and am just about to pick up again this morning) is Beyond the Sunset, by Anna Jacobs. It's the second book in a trilogy about four English sisters who emigrate to Australia in the 1860s.

What did you recently finish reading?

I spent yesterday afternoon curled up reading Bride of New France, by Suzanne Desroches (it's handy working from home ;) It wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped, but I felt somewhat comforted by the fact that others at bookclub last night were a little disappointed in it as well. As one member said, "great story, not great writing!

What do you think you'll read next?

 Possibly, Destiny's Path, by Anna Jacobs which is the third book in the trilogy but I've also got The Sisters Brothers, by Patrick deWitt that is awaiting my attention and I don't think I can resist that cover any longer. It intrigues me!

What are you currently reading? 

I'm halfway through La's Orchestra Saves the World, by Alexander McCall Smith. I haven't read one of his books in ages and have to say I've been missing them. This one is proving to be a great read so far. I can see another late night on the horizon!

What did you recently finish reading?

I've had a spate of great books recently and managed to get through some of the best of the year I think. Most recently was The Girl in the Red Coat, by Roma Ligocka, a memoir about her time as a young girl growing up in World War ll Poland. Absolutely fascinating! I now have very itchy feet!

What do you think you'll read next?

That age-old classic, Animal Farm, by George Orwell is sitting on my bedside at the moment, but so too is a half finished Harry Potter so it may well depend on the mood I am in!

What are you currently reading? Burning Bright by Tracy Chevalier and am really enjoying it. Set in 1700s London, it's a story of William Blake, yet the two main characters are young children - one of whom is a street rogue and I'm just waiting for something to happen!

What did you recently finish reading? Secrets, by Lesley Pearse. All of her stories have a similar theme/tone to them but I love them all the same. This one was the story of Adele, orphaned for all intents and purposes and bought up by her grandmother. When she falls in love with Michael, secrets between the families begin to emerge... but don't worry, there is a happy ending!

What do you think you’ll read next? Tough question - as always, but I'm on a historical fiction/London theme at the moment so its bound to be something that fits into that. The Sealed Letter, by Emma Donoghue might get the nod though.

What are you currently reading? I've got Friday Nights by Joanna Trollope on the go, but to be honest I am totally bored by it. I've made it halfway through so I'll persevere - don't want all that effort to go to waste - but it may take a while as I've just picked up Secrets by Lesley Pearse and after 17 pages in I can't put it down! Now that's what I like in a book!

What did you recently finish reading? I just finished reading Fast Friends by Jill Mansell. It took me a bit longer than usual to get through this one, but I did find out this was her first book so I think that may explain why it wasn't quite as good as the others. however, I'm not complaining - I still love Jill Mansell's writing and her stories are always so much fun! 

What do you think you’ll read next? Probably The Sealed Letter by Emma Donoghue or I'll make myself finish those books I've started that I haven't got to the end of yet - Friday Nights as mentioned above, and also The Rhinestone Button, by Gail Anderson-Dargatz.

What are you currently reading? 

I admire people who can manage to read several books at one time. I'm usually only a one-book girl but this week I'm joining the multiple readers with both Friday Nights, by Joanna Trollope and Fast Friends, by Jill Mansell on the go. I have to admit I'm preferring the latter, but I'm almost halfway through Friday Nights so I don't want all that effort to go to waste!

What did you recently finish reading? 

It's amazing how many books one can get through during a weekend of lazing in the sun. I managed to get through Room by Emma Donoghue (very disturbing!) and Everyone Worth Knowing, by Lauren Weisberger (much needed light relief after Room).

What do you think you’ll read next?

I actually really don't know. I started The Rhinestone Button by Gail Anderson-Dargatz the other week and haven't made much progress on that so I might pick that one up again. Otherwise I have a Diane Chamberlain book awaiting my attention as well as The Autograph Man by Zadie Smith. Although this weekend is another beach weekend so I could quite well end up taking some chicklit with me - perhaps Marian Keyes or two!

I've just started The Rhinestone Button, by Gail Anderson-Dargatz. It's the story of Job, a late bloomer, somewhat of a loner, with an overbearing big brother - I think it could be a little different!

What did you recently finish reading?: 

I've just finished reading Fly Away Home, by Jennifer Weiner. My second attempt at her books and fortunately this one was much more enjoyable than her first - I may even be tempted to a third!

What do you think you’ll read next?: 

Blackberry Wine, by Joanne Harris is still on my TBR pile, but I've also got my eye on The Chapel at the Edge of the World, by Kirsten McKenzie.

What are you currently reading? 

I've just started reading The Little Giant of Aberdeen County, by Tiffany Baker and really enjoying it.

What did you recently finish reading?

When God was a Rabbit, by Sarah Winman. Another easy summer read but I'm really enjoying reading some of the new books that are coming out lately that are slightly out of left field. This was one of them. A really simple story, quite slow moving, but utterly compelling at the same time.  

And I can also say (finally) that I've read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone!

What do you think you’ll read next?

I'm thinking I might go for  book by Joanne Harris. I read Chocolate years and years ago, but haven't picked one of hers up since. Blackberry Wine and Coastliners are currently staring at me from the bookshelf. 

If it's not those two, then it might be the second Harry Potter!

What are you currently reading? I have just today started Anne of Green Gables - partly inspired, I have to admit, by the royals visit to Canada and their stop off in Prince Edward Island. But I am also ashamed to admit that I have yet to finish Lazy Girls fabulous mini challenge where I had to read something "old" by the end of April - so this is for the April Mini Challenge. Better late than never, right? (She asks hopefully?!)


What did you recently finish reading? I'm a bit late on this post today because I desperately wanted to finish The Fourth Estate, by Jeffrey Archer, and I can report that I have! Didn't enjoy it quite as much as Sons of Fortune, which I read the other month, but still a fabulous read. Archer is quite the story teller!


What do you think you’ll read next? I'm thinking about The Jester of Astapovo,by Rose Tremain and Tangled Web, by Doris Lessing - both are absolutely, beautiful little books, published by the Hay Festival Press. They print a book each year for the festival so I'm starting a collection. Check out their here - it's gorgeous! However, I feel like I'm cheating slightly as they're both only 50 pages in length, but I have just finished a 750 page book so perhaps I'm allowed a light weight read for now.
